Contact Adhesives- Here Are Some Facts You Must Know

Contact adhesives and cements are often based on neoprene solvent solutions. They get their name from the fact that they are frequently applied on both surfaces to be bonded. Following solvent evaporation, the two surfaces can be connected to produce a strong bond with good shear resistance. Contact cements are widely utilised in the fabrication of automobile components, furniture, leather goods, and decorative laminates. They are effective at plastic bonding.

What Is This Adhesive?

Contact Cement Spray Adhesive is a high strength, high temperature resistant formulation that attaches most woods, particle board, metal, laminate, and a variety of plastics, including polyethylene and polypropylene. Sprayable contact adhesives were created for the manufacture of parts made of polyurethane and natural latex foams, textiles, paper, fibre, wood, and other porous substrates used in the furniture, bedding, footwear, and automobile sectors.

How to Apply?

The adhesive must be applied evenly on both substrate surfaces. For destructive final bonding, adequate compression is required. Allow pieces to dry completely after application, ideally overnight, to achieve maximum bond strength. Finished goods should not be packed in airtight containers until the adhesive has completely dried. Spray only in well-ventilated spaces to avoid overspray.

The finest adhesive coating that achieves the specified bond strength should be used. Heavy adhesive coats will result in a stronger bond line. When connecting fibres to cushions, be careful not to use too much glue, since this will cause the fibres to harden.

At the end,

There are two types of adhesives. Epoxy, super glue, urethane, polyurethane, and silicone are chemically curing reactive adhesives. Construction adhesive and contact cement, on the other hand, are "non-reactive" adhesives, curing by evaporation. The residual adhesive connects the pieces when the solvent evaporates.

Hope this information would be helpful for you.
