What is Wood Veneer and Its Advantages?

Our love of furniture is never ending. We always want our furniture to have a well-finished look. To achieve this, we need veneer. In wood industry, veneer is referred to thin slices of wood or bark usually with a diameter of less than 3mm.


it is use to stick to the exposed and raw edges of the wood, medium-density fiberboard to form flat panels such as doors, tops and panels for cabinets and to form different parts of furniture. They can be used in marquetry as well.


Plywood involves three or more layers of veneer, each of it is glued with its grain at right angles to adjacent layers to provide strength and support. Veneer beading is a thin layer of decorative edging on objects such as jewellery boxes. It is also used to replace decorative papers in Wood Veneer HPL.

Advantages of Wood Veneer


Wood veneer has many advantages in comparison to wood.


  • One of the major advantages of veneer is its stability. Solid wood can have problems such as warping, splitting but veneer does not have such issues. This is because it is made up of thin slices of wood which are glue together thus, reducing its chances for cracking or splitting.

  • Some projects would not be possible without veneer. This is because solid lumber is subjected to expansion and contraction due to change in temperature and humidity.

  • Another advantage of veneer that makes it preferable over wood, is that its sustainability. Furniture composed of wood veneer used much less wood in comparison to solid wood.

  • Veneer is also very easily available in the market unlike exotic hardwood lumber which is difficult to find and is expensive.
